Name Suggestions for the Stand-Alone

Postby ReD NeCKersoN » Thu May 10, 2007 2:06 am

The dev team has been pondering this over the last few weeks. First off, we want to keep the name "Western" in the title to pay hommage to the original team's brilliant mod. Here are some of the better ideas we've had so far:

Western Showdown
Western Shoot-Out
Western Guns
Western Steel
Western Iron

Please let us know if you absolutely LOVE one of these, or perhaps you can think of something even better? Ultimately, the dev team will have the final say of what to call it but we would really like to hear your ideas! 8)

Well, I appreciate the desire to maintain a naming lineage with whoever went before, but I'd favor using it as a subtitle. My two suggestions are "Slap Leather" and "Grab Iron." Both of which were slang for drawing in a showdown. So, I favor a name like one of the following:
Slap Leather: a Western Showdown
Grab Iron: a Western Showdown

If you want it simpler, I'd just go with the Slap or Grab.(heh, that made me giggle). If you want to go with one of the ones proposed, Western Showdown suits me fine.

out of your list, Red, I like "Western Shoot-Out ". I wouldn't mind have a name a little more simpler and catchy though. "Gun" has a really simple name and "Red Dead Revolver" just sounds cool. maybe something like "Western Bounty Hunter" after all...you do earn a bounty for your kills.

Ooo, Western Bounty Hunter. The one catch is, the bounty factor isn't as elevated in the game design as the title sounds. Good idea though, I like that. :)

Whatever name you pick, it might be good to google it first. For instance, "Western Iron" and "Western Steel" are company names. Names I like such as "Pistolero", "Sagebrush Showdown" and "Powder Burns" are already website or rock band names. Even "Sangre y Muerte", which I had imagined was more obscure, has several Google hits. :?

As long as the buisness, website or band ect... is not related to video games we can use the name.. So no problem there..

Western Showdown seems to fill the bill to me, keeping the "Western" as the first word, as you mentioned. I think also of "Gunfight at OK Corral", which had sort of a hard, action packed sound, so "Western Gunfight" could be another option, if you liked that tone. 8)

At this point, Western Shoot-Out is my favorite. Western Showdown is a close second.

I like Western Shoot-Out also. Western Showdown sounds more like it's just about duels.

I'll jump on the bandwagon - Western Shoot-Out sound good to me. But I'm also a friend of subtitles, so I'll stick to Chainsaw, just the other way round, for example

Western Shoot-Out - Grab Iron

"Western Challenge" or "Colt Challenge"...

Or, "Count on your weapon"

"Western slam"

"Smoking guns"

"Western Judgement"

Hmm the other ones were good, too
