Tequila, is amongst your goals to provide one of the new rendering engines for SG? If you can, make sure you provide .ogg support. Also, I would like to request, that if multiple files are found for a texture name, that .png gets preferred over .tga files. Similarly, .ogg should be preferred over .wav. This way one could more easily update textures without recompilation of maps.
my short goals list for SG this year:
- effectively provide new renderer alternative
- support travis continuous integration platform as ioQuake3 did. This could help to build new binaries for Ubuntu and MacOSX.
- enable as much ioQuake3 features as possible including OGG Vorbis support
About PNG precedence other TGA and OGG other WAV, I suggest you to open a feature request ticket, this should be easy to keep stuff going that way and I fully agree with you
