Tester System Specs

Postby ReD NeCKersoN » Mon Jul 17, 2006 6:53 am

I've noticed fps values and varying brightness on screenshots from testers that makes me curious about what sort of setup everyone is running. I'll start off.

air cooled AMD 2500+ overclocked to 3200+
Abit NF7-S v2 motherboard
2x512mb 400mhz ddr Corsair ram
Nvidia BFG 6800GT AGP (factory clocks)
XP Pro SP2 / DX 9.0c
19" ViewSonic P95f+ CRT monitor
I limit max_fps "125" at 1024x768, with graphics at highest settings in-game except particles set to "few"

I figure the rest of my setup doesn't matter.

This isn't a "who's got better stuff" thread. I just want to know what you're using, and what sort of average fps you get. I dip as low as 50 in heavy action but usually stay close to 125 for the most part.

Main Rig:
exos2 water cooled AMD 64 X2 4800+ @ 3.2GHz
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
2 nVidia 7900gtx's in SLI (not overclocked)
2 gig corsair 3500 LLPRO pro memory with LED readouts
4 WD SATA 150gig Raptors in Raid 0+1
2 WD SATA 200gig SE's in removable bays for back up
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite 7.1 sound card
2 Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD's
XP Pro sp2 / DX 9.0c
XP 64bit edition / DX 9.0c

max_fps set to 125
I have settings maxed in game @ 1280x1024
Non SLI mode never dips below 120 in heavy action
with SLI mode on stays pegged @ 125

I wish I could test maps on a slower machine, but none of the 8 computers in my house are slower than 2.0 GHz. The slowest being an AMD 64 3200+ with a 6800gt :(

I need all the feed back I can get from you guys on how good / bad the maps run..

I'd wish to have such a fast machine as you guys got...

But thats what i got:

Mainboard: Asus Tusl-2C
Processor: Intel PIII 800eb (air cooled)
(Had it overclocked to 1GHz for Games like Star Wars Battlefront , but i don't need to for WQ3)
Memory: 256MB
Hard Drive: IBM 23GB and WD 4GB (Can't remeber the models anymore)
Video Card: Asus V8170 DDR (64MB)
Monitor: IIyama S902JT Vision Master 451 19'' CRT
Sound Card: Soundblaster Live! 1024
Speakers/Headphones:Creative Speakers + Creative Headphone
Keyboard: NoName
Mouse: Blue Logitech MX510
Operating System:WinXP Pro SP 2 / DX 9.x (buid 904)

Max_fps = "500" at 1024*768, all graphics at highest settings except of texture detail = normal and
texture filter = bilinear

Most time the game is runnig very fluently. Only if there is much action on big maps as backwater my fps is going down to 20...On most maps i've got an avergae fps of about 60.

I hope this'll help you. ;)

So i tested it just a few minutes ago (without any players :( ) :

On the most parts of this level i got fps between 50 and 80. The lowest fps i got was about 30.

I have a laptop as my main rig:

CPU: Intel Centrino 1.6GHz
RAM: 1Gb
Video: NVidia Go5200 64Mb (differs from PC 5200)
HD: 30Gb @ 5200RMP (I need a 7200RMP)

I think I have my video settings at default. I think its 800x600, but might have turn up the texture/geometry detail. I pull ~110FPS; i have it capped at 125 but durring a gun fight it drops to ~80FPS.

I also have a second rig that my brother used to play on. (he got a really cool laptop :D ):

CPU: Intel ? @550MHz (P3 most likly)
Ram: 256+256+32 = 544Mb
Video: ???? PCI 64Mb no-name, no-clue
MB: Intel something or another.

This one get ~60FPS max. its drops to ~20FPS durring gunfight. I have the texture detail on low and resolution at 800x600. (this one usually runs a dedicated server at LAN parties)

Mainboard: Asus A8N SLI
Processor: Athlon 64 3700+
Memory: 1024MB PC3200 DDR
HardDrive: 160GB Western Digital 7200rpm SATA/150
Graphics: 128MB GeForce 6600 GT
Monitor: 19? Samsung 930B
Soundcard: Audigy 4
Headphones: Sony MDR-V200
Mouse: Logitech MX518

MaxFPS is set to 125 at 1280x1024
Few particles

I don't usually have fps display turned on because it is distracting, but I just
played against bots on RAWHIDE and got 125 on the open street, dropping
momentarily to as low as 60 in close quarters on Mine.

BTW, I lightened up the screenshot I recently posted so that it was easier to
see the bot stuck by clipping.

For my part, here is my main config, that is nearly 5 years old, except the graphic card :

Mainboard: MSI K7T Turbo2
Processor: Athlon XP 2000 (about 1.2Ghz)
Memory: 2x512MB SDRAM PC 133
HardDrive: 40GB Maxtor 7200rpm + 30GB IBM both in RAID0 software
Graphics: 128MB GeForce 6600 GT
Monitor: 17? Relisys CRT (1280x960) + 15? LCD Liteon Litepanel 150 (1024x768)
Soundcard: Sound Blaster Live 5.1
System: FreeBSD 6.1
Brightness: full

I played on my CRT screen as it has a better resolution : 1280x960.
In most time, I have a FPS between 50 and 80.
I do not remember for coyotebluff and lake. I will check for it.

I just check my FPS on coyotebluff and lake:
For coyotebluff, FPS is mostly 60-90, and on the wide opened area, it drops to ~40.
For lake, FPS is mostly 60-90, and on the wide opened area with the lake, it drops to ~50.
I try on my LCD and CRT screen, with 1024x768 with all high settings (High map ... etc), and see no difference between them.

Hope this helps.

Here you go: Probably interesting since it is a notebook.

BRELIS STUFF
Secondary "Rig" to which I usually refer to as "Notebook":
Dell Inspiron 6000
1.86 Ghz P4 Centrino (Dothan)
1 GB DDR RAM (@400 Mhz)
80 GB HD
X300 ATI mobility 128MB dedicated video memory

SETTINGS
1680 * 1050, everything to max, maxfps 125 (didn't even know about that till now ...), particles few

RESULTS
Single Player, five bots + Breli, average FPS per round:
wq_backwater_t (newest version): town area 60-70, river 55-65
wq_coyotebluff: 30-40 in the open areas, 70+ in the tunnels
wq_lake: 40-45

as a point of reference
wq_tillian (known to be a performance hog): ~50 but very unstable (sometimes down to 30)
wq_canyon: ~60-70 on the main street but very unstable (sometimes down to 30)

Another comment: As I noted somewhere else the instability of the performance is quite remarkable. Sometimes you get 60, sometimes only 30 FPS in the same area. After a while FPS recover and you get 60 again. Quite strange, dunno whether this happens in vanilla quake as well.

@L3th4l: I can easily help you out with old computer stuff ;) I still have my commodore plus 4 and a pentium 1 (133 Mhz) lying around here somewhere ...

I have a slower machine to offer and can run the same sequence if needed.

Finally upgraded! :D

GA-M59SLI-S5 (socket AM2)
Athlon64 X2 4600+ dual core
2GB 667Mhz Corsair DDR2
XFX Geforce 7950 512MB 570Mhz (my first passively cooled vidcard... and hopefully not the last!)

Yeah, I know that the Core Duo is all the rage now, but oh well. After my forced "upgrade" from a TBird 1.4 to a P4 2.53, and experiencing some obscure and Intel-specific issues with a certain game (guess!), I thought I'd go AMD again.

Good choice..

I owned a computer shop for 9 years and still build servers for buisnesses around here and I have always pushed AMD since the Athlon came out.. I am a true AMD fanboy.. lol. The Core Duo wouldn't be what it is without AMD and AMD isn't going to just sit around, they will answer back..

It seems to be, considering that I can compile Q3 with -march=k8 with no apparent issues AND the performance improves. That was not the case with my old P4 (Q3 compiled with -march=pentium4 was.... weird). Of course, that might no longer apply with the Core Duo, but I didn't want to spend a bunch of money to find out.

Not that Q3 was the primary reason for my upgrading, of course. ;) I am surprised at how little WQ3's perf has improved compared to sauerbraten, ut2004, enemy territory, etc. though... Too many non-accelerated effects?

No doubt. It'll be interesting to see what AMD and Intel will do in the next year (especially now that AMD has purchased ATi...).

A combination of things. Particle system, breakables & flares seem to all have an impact.

While our humble team can't possibly be compared to the one's you refer to, I am extremely proud of our volunteers achievements in just over a year. In fact, I'm amazed that any of what has occurred so far has happened since 2.0 was on it's virtual deathbed. It's nice to imagine WQ3 might someday be lumped into the same category as the games you mention. Maybe after our stand-alone & source are released you can help make that happen.
That would awesome. 8)
