The Train - Testing

Postby ReD NeCKersoN » Sat Aug 12, 2006 10:00 pm

Surprise! Get the new version of Train right here.
Link removed. -ReD-
Remove or rename the version of wq_train.pk3 that you have already before unzipping this new file because they are named the same. Hang on the the older version! You'll need it to play on the public servers untill WQ3 2.2 comes out. We are aware of a few issues with the map already but we want your feedback. Hopefully Hika will add this to his test server soon so we can get in a little testing. Please post your bug reports & observations in this thread. Have fun! :D

Playing a bit with bots in this map surprised me : they no longer commit suicide
I guess it also means this map version is easier to play.
- Ladders are easier to get on, especially the one from the side of a car.
- We can jump from a railway car to another.
- Less risky to change car, too.

Moreover, gameplay seems to be much better. Lots of money too.
I expect more Gatling guns, in game ;)

About graphics, I noticed some clipping problem, from each ends of the train, but I guess it is an already known issue.

That's all I can say, in the meantime.

I have a few different versions that I was toying with ideas and ended up compiling and including the wrong br version of train. So i'm going to fix a few bugs I found today then recompile and upload the new version.. Should be up in an hour or so.. :? :x

@hika.. nothing can really be done with the clipping at either end. It is a engine limitation.. I will be trying to make it less noticable though..

No, that isn't normal. You are missing some textures somehow. Ground, boulders, glass, and something is wrong with your sky as well. Strange that Hika & I are not having this issue. You didn't unpack the pk3 file did you?

@Hellrider: Sure it is strange and not normal.
It seems to only appear when you play on your localhost server, and *especially* when both the old wq_train.pk3 and the new wq_train.pk3 are in the pk3 search paths.

Just remove your old wq_train.pk3 or move it outside the search paths, and your problem will be solved ;)
BTW, you can keep your current pk3 config, but then, you must only play on dedicated servers.
By keeping the old wq_train and having the new, you should not have any problem to connect to both the public servers and the testing servers.

Hope this helps.

Red and me found out what the problem was:

btw hika, you nearly got it!

I renamed the old file into wq_train_old.pk3 and left it in my westernq3 folder with the new file.

I just had rename it into wq_train.pk3.old, so that it's no more a pk3-file...but aynway it's strange that the different (wq_train.old.pk3 and the new file) named files disturb each other...

Thx red and hika for your quick responses!!

:)

Indeed ... but I bet you will no longer be able to connect to the public servers ;)

Actually, I guess it is not really a matter of pk3 file names, but rather the files's path they contains (./maps/wq_train.bsp, for example).
About pk3 content loading, perhaps it is a matter of pk3 path order.
Anyway, it's not really an expert diag ... just a guess ;)

I noticed a gameplay problem : there are some windows we cannot cross.
Don't know if it is wanted or not.
I'm not sure if it occured on both BR and DM modes.

I took some pics to show where are those windows.

Perhaps, I missed some of them.
However, I can tell that all of them are similar and have some kind of brush on the bottom side of the frame window.

That is the bottom of the actual window that holds the glass, it has the handle on it too. It was intentional to make the windows to small to go through, but I can change that if people want ..

Another report for you.
Sure, this one is really strange as I don't know if the problem is in the map or in the WQ3 engine.

From this place exactly, near the money bank, I have lightened a dynamite and thrown it up, but it just disappeared.
I don"t even hear its noise, and see it thrown. It did not explode too.
I only see the gesture.

Nice find hika.

I tested this and it seems that if your back is right up against any wall when you throw the dyno, it will clip through the other side and leave the dyno there. So you couldn't hear it explode cause it fell outside in the nodrop zone.

Try standing on the outside of the train with your back to the wall and you will see the dyno clips through to the inside and explodes.

I tried weapon clip brushes but it doesn't work, this is something that will have to be fixed code side..

I tried outside any railway car, the back to the wall, and the dynamite disappeared.
It happened on every wall.
My back to windows and doors, the dynamite did not disappear but it got stucked and turned on itself, before exploding.
