Console Sound

Postby Hellrider » Sat Oct 14, 2006 8:07 pm

In my opinion, this sound is annoying...I don't think there's really a sound needed for this.
If there are many players online and chatting, you will only hear that kind of a 8-bit sound :D

What do you think???

Well, I think we do need some sort of sound to let me know someone is chatting. I'd like it to be very short though. I know Caffeine said he hated the new sound & preferred the old one. Maybe we can alter the whistle we used to use so it's not so long?

Hmmm , ok. Then please take the old sound (was ok for me :) ) or create a new one which is not that annoying like the new "chat sound".

It was just that I got annoyed by the old one and looked for a change ;-) ... but we can revert back to the old one, no problem.

BTW: with "old" I (and probably Caffeine) mean the version available to SA testers. The chat sound in b2.1 is the one from Id and needs to be changed.

What annoyed you about it? For me it was the length.

It 's not like I love some hard work, but perhaps we can add a UI menu to let the player select his preferred sound, or maybe select mute. ;)
It will probably not be in the 2.2 release, but I can give it a try, if anybody is interested.
I guess nobody will complain having this feature.
Then, it will just be a matter of having enough sounds to make most of the players happy. ;)

That idea is awesome :)

It wouldn't be a problem for me, if this sound patch will be included some time after the beta2.2 release.

If someone could come up with a sound that most people can accept, I don't think we need a menu for it. An option to mute it might be ok, though.

I really can't say  ... anyway, I've shortened it a bit and decreased the volume a bit. I would be happy with it now. I'll probably prepare a test pk3 later this weekend.

About hika's idea: if it's not too much work, then it might be worth it.

It is added in the bug database, as a feature.
At least, it will not be lost, and I will keep that in mind in my todo list.

OK, it is now done.

I actually add a "Talk sound" item menu in System/Others, in both the main UI and the ingame UI.
You have a choice between :
- None : to mute the talk sound
- Default : to let the default one (currently the 2.2RC1 sound)
- 8 bit : to play the old video game sound from the testpatch02 (if I remember well)
- Magic : to play the original version of the current 2.2RC1 inherited sound from the first SA release (if I remember well)
- Indian arrow : to play sig11's another sound from one .pk3 release of the SA.

Of course, the order and the names can be changed, if anybody have better ideas or suggestions.

:-) ... I hope it's worth it ... the "magic" is a portion of a sound by Deugli, origignally called goodbadbird.wav ... so maybe "magic bird" ?! ... ahhh ... just some quick "brainstorming"
