Error

Postby ffaf1944 » Tue Aug 07, 2007 6:04 am

I just downloaded western quake 3, and i havent even been able to play. Every time i try to play singleplayer or create a server, this error comes up. Hunk_allocate tempmemory: failed on 2931400. Is there anything i can do? :|

Try this

Bring down the console while in the main menu using the ~ key and type:
/seta com_hunkMegs "96" or try a higher number like /seta com_hunkMegs "128"

How much system memory (ram) do you have? You might have things running in the background that are using too much memory. 99% of the time that error is resolved by raising the hunkmegs to 96 or above. If you have little system memory (512mb and under) You need to make sure nothing is running in the background on your computer while your running the game. Does regular quake3 run fine?

Another thing is to check the q3config.cfg file in the westernq3 dir (open it with notepad) and search for the line "seta com_hunkMegs" and make sure it really is set to 96, 128 or 256.. if it isn't, change it and save the file..

In addition to what Lethal said, there's a little more info in the MANUAL about the problem. Welcome to the forum & please let us know if you fix your problem or not. :)

Regular quake3 runs absolutely fine, i have 1024mb of ram, so im sure that isnt the problem. Ill go into the config and change the hunkmegs to 96 or higher. If it doesn't work i will definatly let you guys know, and thanks for the welcome to the forums

I just went into the quake3 config and changed the hunkmegs to 96, and then i tried 128, and it didnt make any difference. Assuming that you guys have used the online distribution program steam, i used that to download quake3, and my shortcut on my desktop for western quake3, just opens quake 3, then i have to go into mods to start the game. How can i create a shortcut that directly starts western quake3?

You probably need to to the same thing in your q3 config that is located in the westernq3 folder.
How can i create a shortcut that directly starts western quake3?

Right click on your Q3 shortcut & select copy. Right click on your desktop & select paste. Rename the new shortcut to WQ3 or whatever you want. Right click on it & select properties. Add this to the target line +set fs_game westernq3
Now the whole target should look something like "C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\quake3.exe +set fs_game westernq3"
(Pay attention to the spaces!) Then you can change the icon if you wish to one of ours by browsing to the westernq3 folder. That should do the trick.

When i went to change the target line, i noticed it was already the way you suggested i do it. And it still starts up in q3, not just in wester quake3. I hate to be such a bother with this problem, i just really want to play the game!

You have a Windows operating system? Did you download the wq3_b22_full.zip or the wq3_b22_full.exe? What is the full path to your westernq3 folder?

I've never seen it installed that way before. Try this in the target line of your shortcut then:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\quake 3 arena\quake3.exe +set fs_game westernq3"
I have no idea if that will work, but it's worth a try.

I finally got it to work, thanks to all of you for helping me out. One more thing though, how do i get servers to show up? For some odd reason none do.
