So you can't wait for the stand-alone? Want to be able to try the 2.2 version of this game right now, but lost your Q3 disc? Here are two methods that many players are using.
IoQ3 Instructions
1) Download & install the IoQ3 Package for your operating system.
2) Download & install wq_b22_full.exe for Windows or wq_b22_full.zip for Windows/Linux/Mac. Mirrors are posted HERE.
3) Unzip the Map Pack to the westernq3 folder.
4) Finally you will need pak0.pk3 from a retail Q3Arena cd OR you can get it from the Q3Arena Demo.
NOTE: I'm told you can copy & paste the wq3_pak0.pk3 from WesternQ3 into the baseq3 folder, then rename the file to pak0.pk3 but I always get a checksum error when I try that. Still, it seems to work for some people who use Linux or FreeBSD.
If you go the Q3Arena Demo route, you will have to install it before you can navigate to the pak0.pk3
Copy that file into your C:\Program Files\ioquake3\baseq3 folder. You can uninstall the demo now to get it off of your hard drive. When you finish you should have directories that look something like this:
If you have trouble getting a server list from the game, you can see a full list of current wq3 servers at THIS LINK.
Openarena Instructions
1) Download & install Openarena for your operating system.
2) Download & install wq_b22_full.exe for Windows or wq_b22_full.zip for Windows/Linux/Mac. Mirrors are posted HERE.
3) Unzip the Map Pack to the westernq3 folder.
You should have directories that look something like this:
You're done now. However, Openarena doesn't get a wq3 serverlist for you. You'll have to connect by IP if you want play on an internet server, unless someone knows another method.
Go to http://www.bootblock.de/wq3 for a list of live servers & their addresses.
