Yeah, I know. wq_nonamecity.pk3 came from http://www.chopin.edu.pl/~antoni/tutaj/western/ - those files were placed there by "Kowboj community" :) It was probably the previous version of this map and I had to replace it with nonamecity.pk3 (after replacing wq_pak3.pk3) from http://www.bootblock.de/wq3/download.html which is, I presume, the latest version. I just didn't mention that as I thought it's not really important.

I got "wrong" wq_pak3.pk3 from wq_b22_full.exe installer and the "right" one from wq_b22_update.zip. Hope this helps.

also today I joined Rawhide and changed the map to coyote bluff. It said I had a hunkmeg allocation error when I tried to load the map. Knowing how to fix this I changed my hunkmegs to 256, in my westernquake q3config file, and then the map loaded fine.

Gentleman wrote:OK. Replacing wq_pak3.pk3 worked just fine. Maybe this file is somehow corrupt in the executable version of b22 full? You know, it's like at least the third time it happened. Please check.

In the picture, your wq3_pak3.pk3 has a timestamp of 2006-11-19 19:56. The correct file has 2006-11-20 15:18. So if nothing funny as happened to the time and date, you have got the wrong version of the file.

I downloaded the full exe and the update zip from bootblock.de/wq3, and they both have the correct version of that file.

Do you remember which mirror you got the bad wrong file from?

And was wq3_pak4.pk3 included? That's not supposed to be in there, which is another sign that some mirror has got the wrong file.

I just checked all 4 of the 2.2 installation packages on my hard drive. These are the master files. In other words, the files that were uploaded to all mirrors. The date for wq3_pak3.pk3 is 2006-11-20 in all 4 packages & wq3_pak4.pk3 is not included in any of them. I ran a test install with the wq3_b22_full.exe and looked at the files. Everything is normal. Then I ran the wq3_b22_update.exe and checked again. Everything is still normal. Anyone who performs a fresh install of 2.2 with the exe should have nothing more (and nothing less) than what you see in the screenshot below. Of course, the fan maps would need to be installed afterwards.

Since Gentleman is part of the Kowboj community and Don Antonio has access to test files, I speculate he obtained the test files from there. Uninstalling WQ3 will not remove any extra files in the directory. (wq_nonamecity.pk3 for example.) To perform a true fresh install you would need to delete an existing westernq3 directory before installing.
Maybe Don A should think about removing outdated files from his website to avoid more problems like this. If anyone finds an official installation package with incorrect files please let us know so we can contact the host & get it corrected.

I've checked the two zips on bootblock (I can't easily unpack the exe's w/o booting to windows ;-) ... ), and they are good.

Also the size of wq3_pak3.pk3 is 538774 bytes and the MD5sum of wq3_pak3 is a296b11b3d3ea429901f9707eaf67d0c (use http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/winmd5sum or http://www.toast442.org/md5/ or http://www.md5summer.org/download.html to verify). The MD5's of the downloads are on my download page.
