3rd Person Mode

Postby rico » Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:40 pm

Could there be a keycode command to 3rd person mode? It would be fun for making machinamas too.

this is cheat protected though so you cant play it in game. but you can watch your recorded demos in thirdperson.

What would probably help more for Machinima is the ability to set the camera anywhere, then play. Or to pause the demo and move the camera around.

Just saying. :D

Many things are not possible because the server does not send to you information of players (and entities) that are not in your Possible Visible Set.

Tremulous might have 3rd person spectating. It's already done:

I will make a demo and send it to youtube soon.

There is already a 3rd person spectator mode. While spectating, press the spacebar on your keyboard to cycle between first person, third person or free spectator modes.

If you want to film yourself in spec mode, you'll have to do it on your own machine since that's cheat protected on the game servers. Just start the game, bring down the console & enter /devmap mapname, then use the command Pardner posted.

Or alternatively ask a specific server admin about allowing it explaining what you are doing. For high-quality videos, bots are really less than ideal, so humans are clearly better for showcasing the game in general.

Just create a record of the desired game.
After doing so, you can play back the demo locally, create a video using cheats and so on. You can even modify playbacktime or the camera-position.

Erh, I hate to be the correcting jerk, but, technically, you can only modify first and thirdperson (and the angle/range of the thirdperson angle). Not really camera position in the purest sense of the word. :)

I don't know if I get you right. Have you taken a look at Q3MME? Or CT3D?

*blink*

Whoa. It appears I have been out of the loop for a long time now. Q3MME was not in my radar at all.

But is it compatible with SG?

Not that I knew, but it's OpenSource. The last release of the source has been some time ago and the team only created Windows builts and it's not based on ioQuake. With a considerable amount of time it could be adapted to SG.

Camtrace3D should work fine, altghough one will need a minimal mod for SG.

*gasp* The Futs didn't know about Q3MME!!!??? I think it might be. I downloaded it once and it comes with a new quake3mme.exe so you might be able to run SG as a mod of that.
