Monster Browser 0.5 is released

Postby torhu » Sun May 17, 2009 1:16 am

A while ago I released a test version in the Monster Browser improvements thread. A big thank you to those who tried it out and gave me some feedback. :)

Screenshot of the latest version.

Download Monster Browser here.

Project page with source code and additional downloads.

These are the main user-visible changes this time:

Code: Select all
v0.5 - 2009-05-16
-----------------
The "Get new list" button was renamed to "Check for new".  It does no longer cause Monster Browser to dump the servers it already knows about and start from scratch.  Instead it makes MB synchronize itself with the master server, removing servers that are gone, and adding new ones.  The servers that were already known to run the right game/mod are not requeried, but all the rest are.

The "Refresh list" button was renamed to "Refresh all".  It works like before, except for one thing.  The first time you press it after doing a "Check for new", it will retry any servers that timed out during that operation.  This should increase the chance of getting all relevant servers.

Other changes:

- New: Button icons.
- New: Restore previous window position.
- New: A setting for how many servers to query simultaneously.  You can lower this if you get too many timeouts, to see if it helps.
- Change: Display servers that timed out, showing an infinity sign in the ping column.

I guess I can't keep on calling it version zero-point-something forever, so maybe it's 1.0 next time. :lol:

Thanks guys, glad to hear it's working. :)

Let me know if there are any issues, and I'll see what I can do.

By the way, anyone using it for other games than SG?

I occasionally use it for defrag, or used to. I haven't played it in a while though.

thanks for the update. it's nice

--

i just got one problem: whenever i start the monsterbrowser the serverlist is empty (or only one server appears in the list) -- refresh all only refreshes the server that is listed

so i need to "get a new list" everytime i start monsterbrowser - the last version (including the executable-patch you released in this forum a few weeks back) worked fine and didn't have that problem

no filters are set, nor did i change anything else after the update

@Pardner:
I'm just asking because I wonder if I should bother to improve the support for standalone or q3-derived games. Defrag should work fine, since it's a regular q3 mod.

@moRtem:
Not sure what can cause that. Maybe you could send me a PM with the log file that MB creates, at least relevant portions of it.

i can't explain why (since i still didn't change anything), but since yesterday my problem is gone, altough it had been present for a couple of days before (even after reboots)

thanks for your fast reply though :-)
