Wonderful, TheDoctor! The whole process is very well summarized in your post. Once again, I have to thank you, being probably the only witness of the time and ideas you have spent cooperating in the design of a better style.

I just want to point out a typo at point 2. that has to be corrected: it's not
TheDoctor wrote:\r_customwidth 960, \r_customwidth 270, \r_mode -1, \r_fullscreen 0
it's
\r_customwidth 960, \r_customheight 270, \r_mode -1, \r_fullscreen 0

I updated the first post with new rules.

Your "examples" shot at Alamo are so sweet. I particularly love that one taken inside the saloon, it's super!

@all: I have to add that until now we got only banners without players, without action. The process to produce a panorama excludes dynamic scenes, but you can try to simulate an action with the help of your friends. It would be great.

Hi, all. Me it was hard to pick a map to experiment with a banner, so I decided to make a collage |D .
On a banner are all known to date maps(levelshots).
As can be seen on the collage hard to see the logo and I also did the sepia banner (on sepia banner a the logo is more readable).

Banner (true colors):

Good idea, dansh, and hard work to depict all known maps.

Personally, I hate those sepia cheap effects, but the other one is not bad at all. I have to add that in my monitor I'm not able to read all those small images. Probably it could work, with less images of a bigger size, but I still love more a single image shot as a panorama. I think it is the best way to show to new comers what SG is and what they should expect from it. Just my opinion (comments by others are well welcomed!)

And thanks for contributing.

You could try taking a panorame shot during a frozen demo playback. Or with very low timescale.

I once had a config and bash script to automate taking panoramas, if I find the time I'll polish, document and upload it :)
Results look like this (without any manual fiddling);

It might be neat to slightly tilt viewangles (pitch), but I guess this'd require modded gamecode (extend e.g. setviewpos).

Hmm... maybe I'm missing something, but if it is a demo how can you move around and choose your shot?

Yeah, I forgot that you can't free roam in demos with vanilla SG. Iirc I had a small mod to do this with Q3 (not fully blown such as Q3MME however. Camtrace3D is also neat btw.).

I'll check my old harddisk tomorrow and report back.

That is my old config and script to create panorama screenshots. Feel free to test and provide feedback :)

Requires; Linux, a compatible game (e.g. Smokin' Guns, just adjust q3-panorama.sh as documented), ImageMagick.

Deleted either by ImageShack or Third Persons. I would upload them again, if smokin-guns.org offered a way to upload and host (SG-related) images for me.

This contest is dead long time ago (more than one year ago). Could someone change its state from "Announce"?

The contest itself hadn't been any kind of success, but Doctor's banners are wonderful.

Thanks Biondo. Wasn't the original idea rotating the banners? Seems, the banner of the forum is static while the one of the homepage is the last uploaded one.

Yes, it was. But the idea had no followers. Your banners are very good, I couldn't make anything better, also after you explained to me how you achieved to get a crisp logo over an in-game panorama. You can rotate them of course, but this thread should not been marked as "Announce" after more than one year (that means "Listen, listen! There's something new, something really important, that I have the urgency to share with the community. Hurry up!").
Or not?
