[BUG] Player model changes

Postby Breli » Sun Feb 08, 2009 11:17 am

Hi,

I've seen this one many times now and it never happend before the SA release: The player model changes for others sometimes. At first you are dealing with a clint and then suddently the player has a Jane model or so. It also happens with Bots which pretty much rules out that players change something on their side.

It is not a biggy but can be confusing. Especially in team games ...

Cheers

Do you talk about cg_deferPlayers?
It was meant to save some performance via loading new playermodels only when you die or look at the scoreboard.

Yes, it's not a bug, it's a feature ;)
Loading a model + its texture cause a one seconds lag on old computer, it could be painfull if it happen during a gunfight. That's why they are loaded when you die, or you can force playermodel by hiting the <tab> key.

I wasn't aware that this was supposed to be a feature. Even if so, why do the models change during the game and not only during map start-up? for me, that is simply irritating since a Clint gets a Jane model all of a sudden. It is somewhat difficult to track a specific opponent this way.

anyway, as lon as I can disable this feature I am fine with it

It never really bothered me once I figured out what was happening. Of course, I don't go that long before getting killed, so...

That stuff is as old as Q3 ;) (it is not specific to SG)
Of course, it only affect player that connect after you, with a character that was not yet present on the server.
