Unable to kick (nerds)

Postby Monty » Fri Feb 13, 2009 6:04 pm

hi,
sometimes it happens that someone is bored enough to become a f'kin nerd and start killing all his teammates at the beginning of the round. a while ago we met two of these idiots and how was the surprise, when we realized that we're unable to kick them! the vote passed (many times), but never any of these two was kicked. they still were there and kept ruining the game. I've never noticed this unpossibility to kick someone, even if the vote passed correctly. this can be really ridiculous, if you meet two (or even just one) pains in the ass. so.. where was the problem?

Are you sure the vote really has passed ? Like in many game, people that doesn't vote count like a 'No', so even if there is a lot more of 'Yes', when the time is out, it remains a possibility that non-voting people make the 'No' win. Have you seen the server telling 'vote passed' ?

IIrc /kick uses the player's name, therefor use /clientkick instead.

Joe Kari: no, unfortunately many times the vote really "passed", but nothing happened.

the server may have kicking disabled:
g_allowVoteKick 0

if this is the case then you cannot vote to kick other players. I suggest emailing the server admin and let them know. they may choose to change g_allowVoteKick, give them a warning... etc

Ah, I know what he means...
Sometime some nickname are misplelled, when voting to kick them. This cause the vote to not kick someone at all (try to kick someone unexistant). Sometime just the first word of the name is displayed...
Yes this is boring... I think we should kick by client's ID rather than by its name.

just change your name, while the kickvote count down and you won´t be kicked. So \dev\randoms advice with /clientkick should solve the problem. This should also be used by the kick-menue

but how is clientkick working? could not kick anybody with this... "server not running".

Teamkillers seem to become a real plague. Everyday at least one joins and starts teamkilling. :|

There is no other way than leaving the server. This sucks.

clientkick uses the client's id. Use /stats (on the client) or /status (on the server) to get a list of cients and their ids. It is not possible to fake this id, so the vote will work IF enough people vote and vote yes.

Ultimately, the best system IMO is the one used in True Combat Elite: everytime your are teamkilled, you can press F1 to complain, or F2 to not complain. A player that collect 2 complaint (this number can be changed by server admin) is kicked (or banned for 2 minutes).

if we're talking about systems, there's one quite interesting on some servers of Soldat or CS - when you're tked, you can punish your murderer as following - kill him immediately, kill him at the beginning of the next round, lower his HP to 1, give him a bannpoint (like a complain), call a vote or simply forgive him/her. of course that there can be many other ways of punishment, hehe.. but it's not very important. more important, probably, is to make an availibility to comfortably call a vote for anyone (which already works, except these name-changing assholes).

You may want to email the admin of whatever server you have trouble on, with the time, the name(s) of the offender, ip, (which you can get through /status command), and any other information. You can see the admin name and email address in the Monster browser, among other places.

stats seems to be an empty command. use /serverstatus instead.

Was just playing teams and had a team mate that liked to follow me around and then shoot me. Sort of annoying. Do ya just kill him? Doesn't do your team much good! Dweeb. "/status" works on single player mode, for what that's worth, but returns a "server is not running" online. Serverstatus seems to show much the same as tab.
Well...Mr. Chain Blue Lightnin' hisself..heh, heh!
