With cordite in the air, splintered steel, shell casings and powder burns, there’s only one explanation...
If you have any trouble with SG, this is the place to ask.

Upgraded computer, SG doesn't seem to like this.

So, I just upgraded from the Hardy Heron version of Ubuntu to Karmic Koala, the newest version of Ubuntu, and SG is no longer be working for me. When I load up SG, it seems to load far enough into it to screw up my resolution, and then crashes. I ran it in the console, and this is what I got(starting from the point where the messages seem relevant):

------------------------------------
----- Client Initialization -----
----- Initializing Renderer ----
-------------------------------
QKEY found.
----- Client Initialization Complete -----
----- R_Init -----
...loading libGL.so: Initializing OpenGL display
...setting mode 3: 640 480

Serial number of failed request: 29
smokinguns.x86: ../../src/xcb_io.c:542: _XRead: Assertion `dpy->xcb->reply_data != ((void *)0)' failed.

I was hoping it was just something silly like a missing library or something, but I have no idea what this crap is. :D Any thoughts?

Weird error messages !
Are you able to start other OpenGL program ? At least glxgears & glxinfo ? Try also any other game using OpenGL.

glxinfo and glxgears gives me the same error messages, as does OpenArena and UrbanTerror.

So you just need to figure out your OpenGL installation...

Did you made the link trick in /usr/lib ? Maybe you have a bad link after your upgrade. Check what is providing the following command from a console:
Code: Select all
find /usr/lib -iname '*libGL*' -ls

Erm... I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing, but I did that command, and it spit this out at me.

Really don't know what I'm looking at.

And yes, my computer's name is Pablo.

Links seems good, but are you sure you installed an accelerated video driver ?

Well now you know this is not Smokin'Guns fault, maybe you should ask on Ubuntu forums :P

I'm definitively not competent with Ubuntu :P
Sorry, maybe someone else.
