Sound and lag

Postby Mart Duggan » Thu Apr 29, 2010 4:03 pm

Is there any way to disable sound in the game? I wonder if processing the sound on my system adds to the lag. I find the lag in this game is pretty bad, at least for me, worse than in other mmo games I have tried. I have 2 GB ram, 2.0 GH processor and Nvidia 6200 sound card. Any suggestions?

you are playing version 1.0 or 1.1 ?

and: could you define/explain the "lag" you experience?

Lag is not the same as low fps rates. Did you check both?
Try cg_lagometer 1 and cg_drawfps 1 to get a rough overview.

Thanks for the tip on sound control.

I don't know where is a "command console" to enter those commands. I'm sorry I am not much of a computer person.

press ~ ingame to bring down the console and type in the commands.

(it's normally below esc and to the left of 1)

Thanks. By the way the lag or whatever causes the music to sound like an echo. Also when I move the cursor the picture often, but not always, skips frames, so that it jumps maybe an inch or so. This problem seems to be less when there is little or no music playing. Some maps, like San Cucillo(?), are worse than others. That one I cannot play at all it is so jerky.

I've had that happen with games in the past. Try updating your audio/graphics drivers.

After some trial and error, it appears the hesitation I get when I enter a game is caused entirely by the sound effects only, not the music. Sliding the control for sound effects to zero eliminates almost all of the problem. Of course, now I can't hear the gunshots, glass breaking, windmills, etc. which is a real bummer. but at least I can play the game without getting a headache. :D
