With cordite in the air, splintered steel, shell casings and powder burns, there’s only one explanation...
If you have any trouble with SG, this is the place to ask.

Regulating brightness in game settings is deadly broken. That damn problem of brightness affected me and other players too, see SG forum:

http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?t=2448&highlight=brightness+gamma
http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?p=18378#18378
http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?t=2297&highlight=intel

This is the thread in SG forum where brightness problems in Linux are discussed:
http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?t=1414&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

and particularly starting from this post and onward:
http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?p=18378#18378

Well, I now remember that in my PC (Nvidia graphics card) I solved the problem modifying my q3config.cfg file.
In q3config.cfg search for seta r_ignorehwgamma and modify the value to:

seta r_ignorehwgamma "0"
EDITED: seta r_ignorehwgamma "1".

This should do the trick.

But be advised that if your graphic card is an Intel one, probably this will not work. I repeatedly tried in another PC with Intel card without any success. In this case the only thing you can do is to correct the monitor brightness before opening the game.

OMG, mistake, sorry :)
Thank you, moRtem.

@moRtem: your advice was correct, but maybe not informative enough for an average player, so I thought I could add more details. Sorry again.
