[poll] WQ3 Dueling Tournament?

Postby Pardner » Thu Jan 25, 2007 4:39 am

I ran this by Red, and he though it was a good idea, or at least a good enough idea to try.

I want to organize (with help) a WQ3 dueling tournament, but before I begin I just wanted to know if this sort of thing interested anyone. I know that the dueling mode isn?t the most popular gameplay mode, but I thought that it would make a neat tournament.
It would be on a weekend. It would be an all day thing so the European Cowboys can join in if they want. It would be really cool if there was enough people to make it an all weekend thing! It would be open to the public; so gets your friends to join in!

If you think you would like to help organize a dueling tournament event let me know. I haven?t had any experience organizing this sort of thing, and I think it?s a lot to ask from one person. Also, I would not ask the SG team to run this because they have enough to do. I have some good ideas (or I think I do) as to how to run the tournament, but first I just want to see if there is any interest.

So vote ?Yes? or ?No? and post your comments.

***Note***
This does not mean that it is going to happen, just that it might happen. Right now I just want to see if there is any interest in this sort of thing.

I would support this in the news & participate in the tournament or referee. Top 3 winners should pose for a "photoshopped" pic-o-the-week with their preferred weapon. Maybe even a few tourney stats could be posted? I can offer RAWHIDE II for this challenge, but WASTELAND already has working stats. Anyone with ideas should comment. Btw, great idea Pardner. 8)

I would support you in that idea, in any ways.
Tell me if you need something that I could provide.
Also, I might create a new wq3 logfile, in order to separate current stats from possible duel tournament stats.

Not only duels, also other gametypes.

other gametype would be fun, but they require teams. It would be fun but then it might turn into clan wars. (wich might be fun too) Because DU mode doent require teams, anyone can join in.

But if this is a hit, i dont see way we couldnt try other gametypes.

I'd play, I don't have much faith in my duel skills but I'd still participate.

Although I'm not much of an on-line gamer I do like the idea. In case anybody wants to to do it in a more organized fashioned, I've looked for some possibilities:

http://www.myleague.com/ there, it seems, you can set up your own tournaments.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpmytourney/ a rather old tournament system which needs to be installed on a server.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/bracket-tracker/ something similar as the above

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tourny/ yet another one ...

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph ... nt&start=0 a mod for phpBB to organize tournaments. Beta. If tournaments should pick up and if l3th4l has time and if l3th4l can be bothered to try it it might be a possibility, but there are too many "if"s right now ;-)

I was thinking about running the tournament ladder like this. I just used names that I found in this thread. For instance: ReD NeCKersoN would face off against hika and the winner would advance to Round#2

Still no date on when the tournament will be but there seems to be enough interest to have a small one. In the next week I'll come up with some rules and guidelines, as well as round times, sign-ups, and hopefully a date(s).

Very kind of you to offer Leeth! :D But I'd hate to see you go through the trouble unless we get more participants. :| Anyone have ideas how to attract more players for this proposed tourney? As a start, maybe server admins could advertise in their motd? I'll do that on RH2 right away. We should also remember to tell people we meet on the servers. They are the ones most likely to be interested afterall.
