Using the Event Calendar

Postby torhu » Sat Jul 02, 2005 6:45 pm

We have an event calendar! This means that if you and some friends are going to play some BR tomorrow at noon, and want more players to join, you just post a new topic, and set the calendar event settings. Then everyone visiting the forum will see it.

The topic subject will be the text shown in the calendar, so use a short, descriptive subject, like 'Bank robbery' or 'BR/Duel' And put details like server name/address/player limit in the post body. Then people can just click on the entry in the calendar, and they will be taken to the post. How great is that?

Just make sure that the timezone on the bottom of the page ('All times are GMT + ?) is correct for your location before you enter the time for the event. I think you just enter your local time, and then it will be calculated correctly for everyone else.

It seems the developers have mixed the 12h/24h systems a little, (probably americans, then :)), because there is no way to specify midnight. You can't set hour to 0, so you have to use 23.59 instead. This could also mean that if you set the time to 23:00, someone in a timezone one hour ahead will only see the date, not the time, which should have displayed as 0:00. Maybe specify time in gmt in the post body to be safe.

For now, just type in YOUR TIME for events that you want to schedule and the rest of us will have to figure it out for ourselves. It appears that having the calendar feature convert times for everyone may be difficult, but we are looking into it.

It's not that difficult, if there is a programming language in you can write it. But i dont know how the plugin works, so I'm better not speaking..

Our plugin has been heavily modified. We might get the time conversion working if it's not too much trouble.

Shouldn't be too hard if the calendar code can access the timezone that the users set in the options. Otherwise...

It's not hard at all.. I just don't have the time right now to mess with the plethora of files I would have to edit to make it work right.. I will work it in slowly, but for now I will be adding a "quick fix"..
