Yeah !! Time to try another beta update !!
And this time we have a very good news, mappers were very productive and Santa Fe Express for Bank Robbery mode is back... But also the famous dm_lake & br_lake maps are now back too, you'll find them as "Greenhill Lake" map in the UI.

IMPORTANT: You still need Smokin'Guns 1.0 package.
The archive you'll download from here will have to be unzipped in a full Smokin' Guns 1.0 installation.

Beta testers who still have v1.1b2 or previous may only try SmokinGuns-1.1b3-engine-only-update.zip package. But you should better get the full update as new and updated maps are not in that archive, and you'll have to activate autodownload to get updated sg_maps1.pk3.
;)

Zip packages for the beta are currently uploaded on my own site:
Full archive for new beta testers: SmokinGuns-1.1b3-update.zip
Light archive for old beta testers: SmokinGuns-1.1b3-engine-only-update.zip

I've also uploaded the files in our Smokin'Guns Download section at Moddb.

To check download integrity, here are MD5 and SHA1 sums:
Code: Select all
File sizes:
 42349573 bytes for SmokinGuns-1.1b3-update.zip
 6882316 bytes for SmokinGuns-1.1b3-engine-only-update.zip

MD5SUM:
bb52cef906d5699447734701b460825c  SmokinGuns-1.1b3-update.zip
1deaf139c3518675eb24eef4184c287d  SmokinGuns-1.1b3-engine-only-update.zip

SHA1SUM:
da44b8853c6734c535b7f49227189bd4fbd74275  SmokinGuns-1.1b3-update.zip
db9f25d536e2e208431a74e92c760f0b162e188e  SmokinGuns-1.1b3-engine-only-update.zip

I uploaded the SmokinGuns-1.1b3-engine-only-update.zip to SF download section. It doesn't include newest sg_maps1.pk3.

You'll find also binary alternate files provided by sparcdr on his site:
http://www.smokin-guns.org/downloads/binaries/r441/
There are x86 MacOSX build, more Win32 native build, OpenSolaris build and FreeBSD build.

Note:
About win32 builds, smokinguns.exe & smokinguns_dedicated.exe are the native builds provided by sparcdr (other SSE/SSE2 optimized builds are also available on his site: http://www.smokin-guns.org/downloads/binaries/r441/). I renamed the cross-compiled ones with "mingw32-crosscompiled" tag and shouldn't be used by default but as an alternative: For example, I can't start sparcdr builds with wine under linux as I'm missing some proprietary M$ DLLs but the cross-compiled one is running perfectly with the provided SDL & openal32 DLLs.

In the case you need to verify files integrity from the archives, here is a dump of the FilesList.txt file I joined to the archives.

So, how does b3 differs from b2? I'm asking mainly about weapon balance.

About weapon balance, here is what I extracted from the Changelog:
Code: Select all
- support new server cvars:
  - g_startingWeapon to set which weapon player will own at startup (default "2" for remington pistol)
  - g_startingMoney to set how much money player will get during startup (default "20")
  - g_bulletDamageMode to change between bullet damage mode, support values:
    - 0: same formula than Smokin'Guns 1.0, the default
    - 1: new advanced linear formula proposed by tequila tuable with following cvars:
         - g_bulletDamageALDRmidrangefactor: must be between 1 and 10, default 2
         - g_bulletDamageALDRmidpointfactor: must be between 0 and 1, default 0.66
         - g_bulletDamageALDRminifactor: must be between 0 and 1, default 0.5
  - g_bulletDamageAlert: the percentage from which clients will receive warning
because their damage was reduced. Default is "25" %. Useful with g_bulletDamageMode set to 1
- support new values with client game cg_hitmsg cvar:
  - cg_hitmsg can be set to the minimum percentage you want to see when being alerted
by server with reduced damage due to high range hit. Default is still 1, but
you won't receive alert lower than the server limit (see g_bulletDamageAlert)
And you may want to set it to 100 to disable damage reduction alerts.

By default, nothing is changed. Btw you may receive new messages like:
At this range, your weapon's damage was reduced to 62.8%

You should know I set g_bulletDamageMode to 1 on my beta servers, but I'll open a new thread about that.

Should we remove the 1.1b2 files? or are you keeping them on there until the 1.1 release? I don't want our moddb followers being confused (trust me, they will be confused)

Okay I just removed previous files. They are still available on my site if needed.

Of course they do, afaik 64-bits native engine is supported on linux (I'm using myself the 64 bits engine ;) and I know few other linux users doing the same). And I really don't know if windows 64b will be. On which 64 bits OS do you want to see 64 bits support ?

I want to test b3 at WinXP SP3 and can't run smokinguns.exe, only mingw32-crosscompiled works for me, but it works a bit too slow on my old PC. I tried also .exe optimized for SSE but the result is the same: i got error message, what I can translate from polish as:

"You can't run this file becuse it has bad configuration. It may be solved by reinstallation of the program."

I had the same problem with b2, but mingw32-crosscompiled worked a bit faster than in b3, so I didn't care...

:D Very nice- I dig the new cartoon effects. Where do we leave tester feedback at again? And to answer the 64 bit question- I think it should work- although I am not a developer here- Your processor will most likely run it 32 bit.

Where does King Kong sleep.....

...leave feedback where ever you want ;) This is the beta forum so if you see a thread already started, you can post there. Or you can do like KK and make a place of your own.

Works fine when I try it in XP. Would be interesting to know what the exact English error message is, so I can google it. Anyone with English XP get the same message?
