The Ressurection, OMG~!!!1wtfz?

Postby Gentleman » Sat Sep 23, 2006 9:01 pm

Maaan, this is some crazy shit, I don't even know how to begin :)
We were playing Coyote Bluff bank robbery on Kowboj today and... we've found a way to resurrect ourselves.
When you type "/team a" in your console you join (re-join) one of the teams and you get respawned immediately during the round. "No one ever wins, no one finally loses." You die, you get respawned, you die again, and you get respawned again. We have discovered this trick by accident but we repeated it several times and believe me, it works. What the heck is going on? Can anybody fix it?

PS. It probably works with "/team v" too.
PPS. WQ3Players: please, don't use this "ressurection cheat". It's no fun at all ;]

If it works for that map, it should work for all br levels. Sounds serious. :?

It works on Wasteland BR too, on that map with the safe in the church. :(

Hmm ... this is really a serious one.
I can reproduce it in a localhost server, with bots.
Thanks Gentleman for reporting this BR mode threat 8)

In the bug database.
At the same time, I will also check for Round TeamPlay.

It is fixed now.
I can confirm that was the same for Round Teamplay.
@Gentleman: you can input anything unknown after /team.
"/team a", "/team v" ... anything you want do the same thing.
Actually, some special ones are "r", "b", "f" ... for Bank Robbery and Round Teamplay ...

Now, any changes team with unknown /team parameter will force a spectator mode, so the player will not join the game immediately.
Moreover, the team will be picked up automatically according to the number of players and scores.
Ow ... I'm glad that such a trick is fixed as I love BR mode.

Thanks for your fast response :)
I'm glad you've found the solution. Will it be fixed in the next patch to wq3? I still could do this trick on Wasteland br today.

"No one ever wins.
No one finally loses.
Except the dead
Under the Sun
They rot together
With absolute
Biological
Equality." ;>

One observation: in b2.1 you can switch teams without losing your personal score. If you mean to switch from blue to red, but type 'team e' by a mistake, and then do 'team r' after that, it seems you lose your score anyway. That wouldn't happen if typing the wrong letter for team name just did nothing instead of killing you. Sooner or later, someone's going to complain about this. No big deal, though. ;)

Did you mean that we always lose scores when switching team by means of a "/team <something_unknown>" command, after applying the patch ?
In my opinion, it will be very strange as the result code should be the same as a "/team redspec" or "/team bluespec" by the GUI or console.

Perhaps, you probably found the key to fix the reset score bug ... and/or perhaps I missed something ...

Not sure, but it might just be that if you are dead and switch teams, you don't keep your score. So you could always just wait until the next round with switching. Then you would probably keep your score.

Hmmm, maybe I'm just adding unnecessary noise, but the original bug was just a typo and should be handled as such. I.e., typically a typo doesn't do anything, excpet that the console barfs at you ;-) ... I guess, that's what torhu suggested. All the score keeping and team switching aside. Just let the player type the corrected command again.

That's what happens, yes. The problem is that you lose your score when going into spectator mode. If you rejoin after that, your score will be zero. You have to switch directly to the other team to keep your score.

It might be better if using the wrong team name just does nothing. Then a typo in the command won't have negative effects.

Yeah, you are right. I noticed that each time we go to free spectator mode (/team free), and then join a team (/team red or /team blue), we lose the score.
As the following feature request is present, I may be able to implement that.
However, with the current patch, it does not set you to a free spectator but to a spectator joining a team, according to the balance. Then the score is not lost.
Or else, maybe I missed something ...

For this one, I 'm currently working on it and trying to reproduce it.

Ah, you don't lose your score because of a typo after all. Then it's ok. :)

In that case just going into team spectator mode might make it easier for you to type the correct command without getting killed in the mean time. But on the other hand, there's nothing telling you that you didn't get it right the first time, which can be a bit confusing.
