And if I had to guess, I'd say they probably used 3ds Max. Gmax is like the "free" version of that. I installed Gmax a couple of weeks ago (because of this thread actually) but haven't really spent any quality time with it. Please let us know how you fare. I've also heard that MilkShape can be useful.

The catch is there's no middle ground, to be honest. Gmax and 3DS Max are huge learning curves - Milkshape is too low-tech sometimes to be useful. (it was meant for HL1 modeling, fps) Really wish someone would fix that. :\

Anyway, keep at the attempts, mang. In time, you shall learn and already you are showing the signs of patience (through perseverance!), so I say gung ho to ye, keep at it! :D

Models

(I have the mp3 for this, but didn't know how to upload it) :?

Thanks for the tips and encouragement, guys! As you thought, the wq3 models were made in 3ds Max, which, I discovered, good ole' Autodesk wants $3500. for. So I may just experiment with Gmax, for the price. I did find Npherno's GL Viewer/compiler, Red, that pulls the wq3 model components in and you can see the actual model. Pretty interesting! Not sure if I'll ever figure it all out well enough to make any good characters, but it sure is intriguing! 8) (I haven't figured out who ICI is yet).

ICI stands for Iron Claw Interactive, the original team who made Western Quake 3, which I owe them a lot !

I once confused someone with one to which they replied, "oh, sorry, have trouble with TLA." To which I asked, "what?" And they said, "three-letter acronyms."

Yeah, not really funny. Carry on! ^_^

Well, here's Chief Lone Wati's head and hat on Janes model. So I think a new model needs to be created too, don't you!
