Tutorial: Bank Robbery Mapping

Postby Shadoku » Fri May 27, 2005 8:01 am

Ever wanted to make a Bank Robbery map, but could never find any info to get it done? Well, that's about to change, since I've figured it out!

Things you will need:
Okay, after you make sure you have everything, and you have at least a rough outline of your map to make sure this works, follow these steps:

1. Right click on the 2D view window in Radiant, and select Item_money, this is the moneybag, so make sure you hide it in a safe or something.

2. make a default info_player_start spawn, this isn't actually used as a spawn, but WQ still seems to want to have one in the map for some reason.

3. team_CTF_redplayer spawns are used to spawn the defending team, so place them close to or in the bank, make sure you have the same number of team_CTF_redplayer spawns as you do team_CTF_blueplayer spawns.

4. team_CTF_blueplayer spawns are used to spawn the robbing team, so place them away from the bank, make sure you have the same number of team_CTF_redplayer spawns as you do team_CTF_blueplayer spawns.

5. Choose a door, or area that you want to use as the escape area for the robbing team, make a bush to cover the door/area and give it the trigger texture, then right click on it in the 2D view window, and give it trigger_escape.

6. Compile and test it, it should work now

General Bank Robbery notes

1. Its a good idea to place extra Dynamite next to the robber spawns.

2. Never make a map where you have to have more than one person on each team to have a chance at winning (Never hesitate to add advantages that you need more than one person to use though), if WQ had more players this wouldn't be a problem, but with its small user base at the moment, its a bad idea

3. Be creative, no one said that the money has to be in a bank/safe , or even that there needs to be only one or two sacks (just make sure its possible for the defending players to defend)
