Server setup

Postby elpresidente » Mon Aug 16, 2004 6:03 am

I want to setup a server on a linux box I have. Can anyone point to a good resource to do this? And what would I have to do to run Western Quake on this?

Hi
I?ll try to help you setup the server :)

1. Get your Q3 cd and the newest pointrelease

2. create the directories
mkdir /usr/local/games/quake3
mkdir /usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3

copy the pak0.pk3 file from your Q3 cd to your to your baseq3 dir on your *nix box

3. run the installer (don?t forget to chmod it executable)

./linuxq3apoint-1.32b.x86.run

4. download westernq3 and unzip/untar it into your quake3 folder

5. run the game with the command

./q3ded +set fs_game westernq3 +set dedicated 2 +set net_port 27960 +exec server.cfg

or even better use screen if u use ssh
screen ./q3ded +set fs_game westernq3 +set dedicated 2 +set net_port 27960 +exec server.cfg
you can detach the screen with ctrl+a+d

hope that will help you :)

see you soon online
