New French server

Postby hika » Sun May 28, 2006 4:48 pm

New french server in bootblock.de : The Far East of France.
Everyone are welcomed, it's completely public.
Also, the server hosts the backwater and highnoon2.

The "only" (I hope) drawback is that the server runs with a dynamic IP address (it is my home ADSL link).
So for your favorites, you can set wq3.bsdmon.com:27961 . That is certainly more user friendly.

Max upload bandwidth : 680 kbit/s
Small mini site : http://wq3.bsdmon.com ;)

It would be cool if anyone could tell me his/her ping.

Cya there.

Cool !

I see that you are using the FreeBSD version of the quake engine. I know that they have one in their ports system. Are you also using the FreeBSD client ?

If you should run into any problems that seem to be particular to the FreeBSD game version I'd be interested. No gaurantees though, that we can fix them ;-) ... some time ago, Caffeine reported problems with the icculus game engine and we could hardly help.

Yeah, I'm using FreeBSD for both dedicated server and client.
It is my everyday operating system 8)

About problems, I had detected one, just after registering my server in bootblock :
I have seen neither "punkbuster" variable, nor "sv_punkbuster" in the getinfo server response.
That made the Punkbuster column empty, in the bootblock page, for my server. :|

I'm quite sure that I do not run punkbuster. So to fix the bootblock page, I have add the following lines in my server.cfg :
Code: Select all
// Just to report "NO PUNKBUSTER" in server vars
sets punkbuster "0"
sets sv_punkbuster "0"

(note the sets command, not set)

I don't know if it is some cfg problems, or if it is related to FreeBSD 's quake engine ...

Hey hica, i just tried to connect to your server a few minutes ago:

1st. I couldn't find you with the "get new list"-command, so launched with x-fire (must work with "specifiy" ,too, i think)

2nd. I couldn't connect, because i had to download the file "wq_3-pak0-new.pk3", but i couldn't, because autodownload is turned off on your server.... :(

I hope you can fix this... Btw i sometimes have my server online ,too (it worked very well...). So if it would be a help for you, i could send you my server.cfg.
But i'm not using FreeBSD. So maybe it wouldn't work...

Perhaps, it is because I have not reported my server to ID's master servers.
I don't think they like dynamic IP address :p .
However, you can rely on Favorites with wq3.bsdmon.com:27961.

Fixed. I just have deleted this .pk3. If autodownload were on, downloading this could have hurt you

That's essentially a problem with the code on bootblock ;-) and exactly what I did with the test server which does not know about punkbuster either. I really should clean up the code that's generating the server listing.
