New Posts .... Not!

Postby /dev/random » Mon Jan 26, 2009 4:29 pm

For whatever reason the homepage shows me a link to "View posts since last visit (number)". But when I click that link, I often get no posts at all or it displays posts I have read before.

So what's going wrong?
In case this information is needed, I'm using Firefox 3, Cookies enabled. I have already tried to log off and on again, cleared the cache and reload the site a few times.

But that's what it does!
It displays all the posts that you read since your last visit.

Maybe you visit too often and read too much so there are no new posts?

Kidding aside, it perfectly works for me. If there are new posts a tiny little arrow thingy indicates that in front of the respective forum. Once read, the arrow disappears. I believe thats stored in a cookie, right.

I guess spam-posts that are deleted still count to that "new posts" counter.

Yes, deleted posts are still counted in the new posts link.

I will look into it, but I might need more info as I have never heard anyone having a problem with it before on any browser. The code is purely PHP and shouldn't be affected by differences in the browser type.

Your session id along with new posts cookie expires as soon as you close your browser.. Reloading the page or navigating to another URL will not effect the cookie.

I use CookieCuller for Firefox, so my Cookies from the sg-forum will stay intact.
The problem still exists and other people are experiencing it too.

I would guess CookieCuller is your problem. The cookies work they way they do for a reason. If your making it so the cookie can't be deleted when you browser is closed, you will see the same posts again.
