q3config.cfg problem

Postby harpo » Tue Feb 24, 2009 4:39 am

I loaded SG on my 64bit windows Vista machine.
Loaded okay, seems to play okay.
Problem: console messages stating "couldn't write q3config.cfg"
So, when I restart game I lose all my settings (name, controls etc..)
Thanks for any help.

check to make sure that your q3config.cfg is not write-protected and that its not in a write-protected folder or sub folder.

I dont know much about vista, but maybe allowing Smokin' Guns to run in admin mod might help.

Well, I removed the read only status on SG folders and subfolders.
Still get the same message in console. Thanks for that info though...

Did you try to run it as Admin like Pardner said?
You may also try to copy the complete game into your Documents folder, since you should have full write permissions there.

When you start the game, the console should tell you where it is looking for files. Ensure you have write-permissions on all of them.

Try this (as an administrator):
Explore to the folder where q3config.cfg is located, right click on the folder name, left click properties. Left click the security tab. Click on 'Edit' button, add your username (change location if needed, i.e. if on domain possibly). Click 'ok'. select your username in the top box, in the bottom box, check 'Full Control', make sure there are no 'Deny' boxes checked. Click OK.

Try it out.

Thanks for the help....
I went back to attributes and found a read only.
I must have missed it the first time.
All is well in SG land.
