I believe the developer building the Mac binaries is using GCC via Linux to produce the builds so is unable to test them.
It may be better if a Mac user was given the makefile and other resources to attempt building the binaries on a Mac.
Newer versions of OS X use a different compiler so the current makefile may not work with that compiler.
Building the binaries on Snow Leopard would most likely be successful. I would have offered to do this but none of my Macs are running Snow Leopard.
