RAWHIDE 1.1

Postby Pardner » Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:43 am

RAWHIDE is back. I am renting the game server from the same place as Paladin (which is scheduled to be shutdown this weekend): http://escapedturkey.com
108.178.55.71
The server is located in Chicago, IL, USA. It will be running DM as the default map cycle, it has voting allowed, and it has the DM, BR, and MIX cycles loaded. I plan to put all the available fan maps up there are well.

I have never run a game server before, so bear with me as I adjust. Suggestions are welcome. I am also looking for a few trusty deputies. Shoot me a PM if interested.

WOW Pardner, you're fast!

I just played a little and the server is great! My ping there is better than in Paladin.

I hope see many american players there.

THANK YOU!

It was all Escaped Turkey. I talked to the guy after I bought the server and he said that it will take 24 hrs starting Monday morning since yesterday was not a business day. Then 4 hrs later I got a welcome message with my server information. Escaped Turkey already had Smokin' Guns 1.1 installed in their games list and away I went!

I'm really glad to hear that. I was on with ReD and Chico and it seemed like we had very sporadic lag. And actually, RAWHIDE is from the same provider as Paladin so it should be *almost* identical. Maybe they were doing maintenance last night and you go on after the maintenance was finished |D

Howdy all. 8O

Pard, I joined RAWHIDE tonight & played against bots for 10 minutes or so just to test the connection again. My ping was much lower than it was yesterday. Didn't feel laggy either. Funny thing is, MonsterBrowser tells me I ping 40 to the server but in game SG tells me it's 70. Sending a ping with CMD reports an average of 45ms. So maybe SG's report isn't to be trusted. (I think this may have been mentioned on the forum before but can't remember what became of the discussion.)
On a tracert, I pinged 23ms to NY on the 6th hop. Too bad the server isn't located there!

NY would have been my choice if I went with AoW as the provider. Reading the old RAWHIDE forum it looked like Brazil had a good connection to BEACON's server. I will most likely stay with ET as long as they are willing to rent the server to me for the price that I am currently paying!

This is my first post on Smokin' Guns forum :) .

Good job for the rebirth of the Rawhide server.

I was so disappointed when I read that the server will shut down. I think I was the last player who remained on that server. I remember that when I looked at my ping, has been as though I saw the heart rate of a dying patient :( .

When I saw the Rawhide server a few days ago, I was so happy to see it alive again.

It's been a while since I;ve had time to play more than a few minutes here and there, but it is very nice to know that Rawhide is back :) Thanks a lot!

Is Paladin now gone for good?

Glad you like RAWHIDE

This was actually my fault. I contacted Paladin to see if they could enable voting. Turns out, they were no longer running the server. Contacted their provider, who said that the server should have been shutdown long ago.

So yes, paladin is down for good. As I mentioned before, I am renting the game server from the same place as Paladin. So everybody should get identical pings.

Did they or did you contact their provider?

I did. The provider then shutdown the server. Paladin has not run the server since first of this year.
