So which is real Baller Bute site among the following ones?
  • bb.no-ip.org
  • ballerbude.no-ip.org
  • 212.65.13.87
  • ballerbude.smokin-guns.org
  • bb.smokin-guns.org

Sorry for the stupid question, but I don't know anything about this kind of things (URL, IPs, ...). I suppose that 5 in 6 4 in 5 are fake sites (maybe even capable of implanting a virus in my PC). Which one is the true site? I'm puzzled.

An IP-Address, in this example 212.65.13.87, is the "true" designation of a web server. Think of it as a telephone number, but for the internet.

A domain name, such as bb.smokin-guns.org, is just an alias for an IP-Address. Domain names were invented to help humans remember internet addresses.

All of the above addresses are aliases of 212.65.13.87 and therefore valid names for the Baller Bude stats page. You can check this both on windows and linux with the help of the nslook command, e.g. nslook bb.smokin-guns.org

In this thread, I've declared bb.smokin-guns.org as the main domain name. All other names should remain defined as long as possible for backward compatibility, but ultimatively, everyone is encouraged to remember, bookmark and use bb.smokin-guns.org.

Thanks, Doc, for having used my Xmas banner again (bad, lazy Biondo).
Nice new music. Sort of a seasonal ragtime that makes those two frozen characters (Snowman and Santa) look even more surreal than always.

It's one of Crazy Otto's medleys. I found it to be one of the better suitable Honky Tonk piano christmas themes available. Imagine, you'd enter a saloon where it is played...

If you connected to Baller Bude on December, the 25th 2014 (just this day) and having problems playing in single player since, you have two choices:

  1. Find and delete the zvm.pk3* in your SG user directory, or
  2. Add +set com_zoneMegs 128 as a parameter to the SG executable.

Apologies for any related trouble because of this.

Baller Bude's host is plagued by power outages:
reboot system boot 3.14.16-gentoo Tue Jul 14 16:29 still running
reboot system boot 3.14.16-gentoo Fri Jul 3 15:52 still running
reboot system boot 3.14.16-gentoo Fri Jul 3 14:41 - 15:52 (01:10)
reboot system boot 3.14.16-gentoo Thu Jun 25 14:12 - 15:52 (8+01:40)

BB's services (i.e. the programs) used to be started manually. After the 3rd of July, I tried to automatize this process, but as the most recent outage showed, this doesn't work quite yet: players got a "You have been banned from this server" message and nobody was able to connect, me included.

Firstly, let me apologize for these problems. I'll try to get things under control.

Secondly, I'd encourage you to mail (oa.doctor [at] gmail.com) or PM me as soon as you find something unusual regarding BB. Any well-meant message is appreciated. Thanks.

Best regards,

TheDoctor

I can confirm that starting the Smokin'Guns server automatically prevents anyone to be able to connect. Whether this happens, because the server is started to soon or whether this has something to do with Tequila's authorization mechanism, I don't know.

I deactivate the automatic start for now, meaning I will have to be notified, if the hosts restarts itself and the SG server is down.

The host computer of BB is offline since Friday, the 24th July. I have contacted the owner. I expect the server to be back on Monday; there might be a slim chance, it comes back on Saturday or Sunday.

The host and the game server are back online, after @spi swapped the faulty power supply, which was responsible for the outage.

The host is offline again. Seems more than just the power supply is faulty. The owner, @spi, is considering to change the hardware. If he does, I'll set-up the game server once more.

as mentioned above by doc, since last weekend we detect a hardware problem on our server !
however, i hate hardware issues, so i decide to switch on a new system.
atm, we are working on configuring and restoreing data to bring back our services in familiar quality !

be patient, we will be back asap
best regards
