Average ping increased

Postby Hellrider » Tue Feb 06, 2007 10:23 pm

I've got the feeling that my average increased since beta2.1 (maybe later) :(

I 've played many times on different servers---> it seems that my ping increased about 30ms.

I compared the values from the rawhide and wasteland stats:

rawhide stats say: ping : ~128ms -----> actual ping on rawhide is about 160

wasteland stats say: ping : ~45ms -----> now : ~80ms

I also played on the SITW server and my average ping was "only" about 80ms. I remember an average ping from about 30ms on this server. (this one is very near to me...)

Has anoyne else experienced a higher ping,too ???? :?:

Ping would be related to your ISP.

@l3th4l: yeah this could be related to my ISP. But this would be a bit strange for me because I neither changed my ISP nor changed the dsl-speed. :|

@breli:You're living the nearest to me as far as I know. What about your results concerning the ping. Did you experience any change???

This might be related to a feature in Unlagged 2.0. Try setting /g_trueping to zero, and see what happens.

When g_trueping is on, it takes into consideration the time it takes from a server snapshot reaches the q3 engine until it's actually been processed and it's data has been made visible from the gamer's point of view. Or something like that.

It doesn't affect your actual ping, just how it's measured. :)

Thanks for your hint torhu. But I'm sorry to say that setting g_trueping to "0" didin't change my ping display :(

Hmm, maybe I can find out something referring to my ping at the weekend.

As L3th4l said: your ping shouldn't have been influenced by anything on "our" side.

However, as crazy as it may sound, my gut feeling is similar to yours. I used to have around 40 on SitW and 120 on Rawhide. Now it is 50 and 200 (or more, just had 550-600!). AFAIK the server location of Rawhide moved to the west, so that might an explanation for this one. Moreover, I use different ISPs in KA and MS and get the same results whats also very strange.

In case of Rawhide it may be that the DeNIC interchange node that handles the traffic across the atlantic may have changed somehow.

usually I don't care much but in case of Rawhide the increase is too much. I simply can't play there (only nonsense with molos and stuff but no "real" games ...)

Anyway :) ...

Ah ! Always a new cvar I didn't know, in your pocket :D

@Hellrider, @Breli: About the ping increase feeling, I remember you both use a wireless connection, so maybe it is related ?
I now play in a wireless connection, and don't see a lot change, except on Kowboj, but I remember Don Antonio has done some special networking stuff.

Anyway, if you doubt on b2.2, I might spawn a Wasteland b2.1, if RAM allows me.
