The README tells you what to delete before you install the patch.

Try installing the patch again? You've done something wrong somewhere. I followed the README, then installed the patch & everything works fine for me.

OK, if you started over anyways, don't delete anything. It's the safest.

Unless you want to know some more details and unless you are prepared to get confused ;-) ... stop reading now ;-) ...

If you don't delete then the only thing that can happen is that you may just be confused about having 2 or 3 exe's (wq3_02post.exe and wquake3.exe) - use wquake3.exe (from now on, I will simply overwrite the exe anyways).

Ignore the MacOSX and linux stuff (which may also have 2 versions now : Linux: linuxquake3_02post, wquake3 and wq3ded - MacOSX: Quake3.app and Westernuake3.app)

Also, when I wrote "delete Westernquake3\pak0.pk3" I meant exactly "Westernquake3\pak0.pk3" and in particular I did not mean "Westernqauke3\baseq3\pak0.pk3" ! ;-) ... (I know, I tend to be brief ...) But if you downloaded the latest version of wq3_b21_sa_testpatch01.zip you should not even have Westernquake3\pak0.pk3 - and even if you do, with wq3_b21_sa_testpatch02.zip it does not matter anymore.

Another thing: extracting the patches from http://www.westernquake3.net/viewforum.php?f=19 should be done inside "Westernquake3/westernq3" (in analogy to "Quake III Arena/westernq3")

Lastly: sorry for answering rather late :-(

in order for it to work i have to move
backwater pk3
wq_highnoon pk3
pak0.pk3
to westernq3 folder
then i can play it online
i then downloaded 2 standalone
moved pak0pk3 from 2nd 1 to westernq3
it asked if i wanted to save this 1 over the old 1 i said yes
i was using wq3_02postexe. but with the second 1 installed i use wquake3exe.
i jumped in game and it works
it started on the train board
i usally got the error about the doors
not any more

OK, let's go through this:
and 2 extra boards

which ones ?
i have to move
backwater pk3
wq_highnoon pk3
pak0.pk3
to westernq3 folder

backwater.pk3 and wq_highnoon.pk3: yes !
pak0.pk3: no - this should stay inside the baseq3 folder
moved pak0pk3 from 2nd 1 to westernq3
again - it should be possible to leave it where it was.

The rest sounds ok.

Alright, a new SA patch. :) I'll check it out this weekend.

Also, I noticed that you're picking up the security fixes from ioQ3, but what about the features? At this point, I'd much rather use it with the wq3 mod instead of the wqQ3 standalone. Well, once the random quit bug goes away, anyways... (I'll see what I can do to provide more details on that, or maybe just file a BR on their bugzilla).

@rev_blueduck : I've installed ASE on my windows laptop, but I did not encounter the problems you encountered :? ... I had to configure ASE, of course, to point to "C:\.....\Westernquake3\wquake3.exe" but without any moving around, it found the font and no problem with default.cfg

Maybe one more thing. Both zip files create a directory structure:
sa_testpatch01.zip:
Code: Select all
Westernquake3\baseq3\pak0.pk3
Westernquake3\wq_02post.exe
etc.

sa_testpatch02.zip:
Code: Select all
Westernquake3\baseq3\pak0.pk3
Westernquake3\wquake3.exe
etc.

In other words: don't extract 02 inside 01. But extract both relative to e.g. C:\Program Files\

@caffeine: Well, I'm somewhat opposed to OpenAL and SDL when the game "just works". And most features require one or the other. I _may_ take cool features if the effort isn't too big. For now, though, we decided not to take ioq3 but simply modify ID's q3. In the long run, this may change, though. Especially since ioq3 supports more platforms. I am in the icculus mailing list (lurking only), and e.g. (much to my excitement), today it was posted that they'll never use a configure script - hooray :-)
About your random crashes: Maybe I really should install ioq3 and see for myself.

Damn. :( That's understandable, though -- adding support for them would take more time and effort.

And most features require one or the other.

Hmm, maybe. Anisotropic filtering doesn't though, and hopefully the console tab completion (for maps especially) doesn't either.

I hope that it will change, but I can imagine that you just want to get the SA out there right now. I can't argue with that goal -- I also want it to be released ASAP so that we'll see more players. :)

Yeah, Zakk doesn't like Autoconf for some reason. However, there's nothing preventing someone from adding it and then submitting a patch on their bugzilla (as an enhancement). ;)

About your random crashes: Maybe I really should install ioq3 and see for myself.

Sounds good.

I've got nothin'. Nothing to report about the SA, that is. I noticed no missing textures, the new sounds are nice, and the performance is about what I would expect. Oh, and the console does have tab completion, but not for maps.

The only thing that I'd change is the font... it's a bit aliased/ugly, IMO.

Yes, the font in the console sucks.

The only other thing I noticed was some sounds have a constaint studder when spectating someone. Spectate someone that has a lit dynamite in their hand and the fuse sound studders or if they are under water, the underwater sound studders. I would like to know if anyone else can reproduce it. I have looked into it and found nothing yet, any ideas sig?

I've also noticed strange noise when spectating someone with lit dyno or swimming underwater. (Lake testing.) I think I was in 3rd person or free spec mode at the time. It's like a rapid ticking sound if I remember.
I'm afraid I agree that the console font could be better.
