The Villa is back!

I am glad to announce that my next map will come on the 14th March. :-)
It is in fact my first mapping-project (even before dm_xmas) and I wasn't sure recently that I will be able to finish it... I still remember that I was kidding for the release date of my map by saying "When it's done!, as 3d Realms said".

My map is in fact a remade from one of the old Western Quake 3 1.2 map which is "The Villa" from around 2001.

Now a check-list:
  • team overlay compatibility - CHECK
  • new sound effect - CHECK
  • high resolution lightmap - CHECK
  • bank robbery mode - CHECK
  • deathmatch mode - CHECK
  • last SVN version compatibility - CHECK
  • copyrights from ICI - CHECK
  • future creative commons licence - CHECK
  • and more and more... - CHECK :lol:

OK, that was theory... Now let's see:

The first screenshot (unpair) was made in WQ1.2 and the second (pair) in SG



For sure, a first map cannot be made alone, I got some help from other gunslingers which are:

  • and many other...

Oh zut :oops:
I forgot that [BACON]'s were hosting one beta version. (that was more a single test of the map before the announcement)
We tested it to see what should be done in the gameplay, in particular the bank robbery mode... I did few changes since (not much in the map itself but in cfgs and the license) but if you see some huge bugs, just call me and I will try fix them.

I just made another .zip archive with other files that I created with the map (like the models or the levelshots). Here it is. I hope I will see the models in the future mapping SDK or another map :)

I hope i will be able to play it with some other players soon on one of the servers that allow custom map-list :wink:

As i already told, this map is now under creative commons license (CC BY-NC 3.0)

I was pretty excited untill I realized you only modified Fakeys original map file. And only a little. :? A total remake could have been epic.
But converting someone elses work is how I got started too, so I won't scold you too much for it & it's a great way to learn level design. The maps I converted were eventually recreated from scratch so that they fit SG much better. Namely, Train & Town. Maybe you might consider doing the same thing someday.
Btw, you have entirely too many money pickups imo.
