Hi all,
im almost done with the model. Some refinement (&parts), edge turning here and there and its ready for texturing. Not the most accurate model on the planet but its enough i think. Could be a remington replacement.

Would be nice if someone could texture & animate this. (:
The old hands and animations would fit temporarly, of course with some realignment.




Maybe a stupid question but is it possible to use a different field of view on the first person gun? The 90d FOV makes the gun very stretched (ugly).

I'm not sure that's possible at this time. Did you look at the current pistol models to make sure you sized yours similarly? (I can send you some model sources if you need them.)

Did the 1851 have an option for swapping out cylinders? Nobody in game would want to spend 3 minutes reloading imo.

Red, yes, i would take a look on them.

Pardner, its a conversion, you dont have to reload it like that.

Approx 2800 triangle and more coming. Ok, i can cut this down to 2000 maybe (deleting from the right side etc.).

I did a brief search on a '51 conversion with no luck. It looks like it was in service from 1851-1873. In 1873 it was simply replaced with a cartage pistol.
Also it seems that pre-packaged paper wrapped cartages were avaliable (link). That may be a good idea. Just had pre-packaged cartages and then the animation shows them getting packed into the chambers with the lever.

Our Remington '58 was also a black power pistol, but it had the removable carousel which is what we do to reload in game. Maybe we should get a "paper-wraped black power cartage" ammo type too.

It was called the Richards-Mason conversion, adding a loading gate so metalic cartridges could be used. Lots of guys did that to the 1851, especially after the war. Tuco shows it up close when he assembles the gun from parts on the counter in GB&U. A lot of guys swapped their 51 Colts for 58 Remingtons on the field, because the Colt had a tendancy to jam if you pistol whipped somebody with it. Not the Remington! Pale Rider is the classic showing of the multiple blackpowder cylinders for the 58.

Cool, that version of the 51 was usually .44 caliber, rather than .36 like the standard Navy's.

Looks just like one red and I used to fire in the back yard when we were kids. Dunno if it's the same though but very similar looking. I know we had to add a cotton patch, powder and grease to the load.
