Hit sounds?

Postby FisherofMen » Mon Aug 03, 2009 3:25 pm

Howdy folks,

Do not know if this has been suggested or not. But I think iht sounds would be a huge plus when playing SG. There is nothing more comforting then hearing a little "ting" when shooting at someone. :D

I don't really see how hitsounds can improve this game. Shooting is so slow you have time to read the console message when you hit someone :x

But i guess i would use them if they were implemented.

I always check the top left corner to see if (who) i hit when shooting. But this isn't always the best since it means not paying enough attention to my surroundings.
At the same time, I don't know if hit sounds would be the best way to let people know they've hit someone (although this may depend on the sound itself). Would we risk losing a little of the games feeling if we'd hear a small *ping* everytime our shots strikes true?

Usually I just shoot like a madman and hope I hit something (it is the wild west after all) but somekind of indicator other than the console would be nice.

Hmm....maybe someone more capable than me could come up with a western sounding hitsound. :?

It doesn't need to sound western, it needs to stand out of the other game sounds.
A short ping will be good, and ting in case of headshot (or maybe leg shot since in this game its smarter to aim at legs.....)

You could have a clank-sound, if anyone understand how I mean... Like a piece of metal thrown into an empty coffepan. Although it shouldn't be too loud (more like a whisper perhaps?) or it'd be distracting.
Think there's a sound just like this in Dead Man's Hand, but I haven't got access to that at the moment.

Isn't there a sound like this when you hit the boilerplate?

IMO, the ambiance is a part of the game, adding such sound doesn't pleased me... I will not feel like playin' a western game, but a sort of retro-Q3...
And players actually emit sound when they are injuried.

Yes, that should be enough of a clue. Adding a hit sound is just one more thing for the computer to process, and one more thing to go wrong.

yup and what Joe Kari said i don't really like the idea of a sort of unrealistic hit sound :)

The easier option is too read the messages top left?
