Cant seem to kill anyone

Postby wwbiteme » Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:15 pm

Hi Red

Havent played WQ3 in a while and went on last night and again today. I am having issues where I can hit people but never get a kill where as i seem to only get hit once and die.

Has something changed from older revisions? Am I doing something wrong?

Have to say it is very frustrating just running around and being target practice.

i did get some confirmation that I did hit and do damage on others but after 2 games 20 min and 0 kills something is just not right....

Any ideas?

Hi wwbiteme,

You may record a demo and then post it here. It will be much easier to determine the root cause of your troubles.

Have a good day!

Howdy wwbiteme. No drastic changes & I doubt you are doing anything wrong. (Excluding aim perhaps.)

As you know, this game feels quite different from WW & can take a few gaming sessions to become acclimated. I would suggest you play against bots in singleplayer mode to get your rhythm down. When you can routinely defeat the bots at thier highest skill settings you should be ready to gun down live opponents.

There are not so many players playing on servers, but most of them seems really addicted to the game and quite skillfull... that may be your problem ;)

I think that may be the problem! The gameplay has changed a lot since WQ3, but thats nothing the devs did. the Change is due to a whole new crew of players.

I have an equally hard time playing WW, wwbiteme, for the same reason that Red mentioned. Glad to see you around these parts again friend. I plan to get WW on my new laptop this fall when I get back on high speed internetz!

New improvement to SG 1.1

Postby Lucky Bro » Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:37 pm

Btw, we may remove handicap from UI. Or at least rename or hide/move it.
A lot of newbies have suffered from it. And the reason to use it actually is very doubtable. I mean not to remove the possibility completely (cvar will be present anyway) but just hide it or move to other submenu and rename with warning.

Is that what 5 handicap means? So I only had 5 health...no wonder a shot in the big toe killed me

So the hight the number the more health? That is confusing....you would think the lower number would be better and higher would be worse...

Official Quake3 guide wrote:Handicap: The default handicap rating for all players is 100. This value can be lowered for veteran gladiators to level the playing field when inexperienced combatants are in the Arena. A handicap reduces the effectiveness of your weapons, armor, and so on as well as lowering your maximum health value.

Nothing to add. SG has the same.

wwbiteme,

If you want to get yourself much better (in game) I would recommend you to join sg.wars IRC channel:
irc://irc.quakenet.org/#sg.wars
(you may find instructions "how to connect IRC" somewhere around on the forum)
You will find some players there and could discuss tactics or other important things for playing more seriously (if no one respond you there just wait for me ;)).
Also I think that soon I'll release some demos to help players to get better and find their own style instead of usual and obvious ones (I just don't have much time to play).
And if you have some ideas how to improve the game but don't want to start a new topic (or just to discuss it first with developers) I would recommend you to join the main SG IRC channel:
irc://irc.freenode.org/#smokinguns

Anyway, the main thing is to have fun in game :) And that is the thing I wish to you :)

Have a good day!
