An
IP-Address, in this example 212.65.13.87, is the "true" designation of a web server. Think of it as a telephone number, but for the internet.
A
domain name, such as bb.smokin-guns.org, is just an alias for an IP-Address. Domain names were invented to help humans remember internet addresses.
All of the above addresses are aliases of 212.65.13.87 and therefore valid names for the Baller Bude stats page. You can check this both on windows and linux with the help of the
nslook command, e.g.
nslook bb.smokin-guns.orgIn
this thread, I've declared
bb.smokin-guns.org as the main domain name. All other names should remain defined as long as possible for backward compatibility, but ultimatively, everyone is encouraged to remember, bookmark and use
bb.smokin-guns.org.
