Regulating brightness in game settings is deadly broken. That damn problem of brightness affected me and other players too, see SG forum:

http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?p=18378#18378Well, I now remember that in my PC (Nvidia graphics card) I solved the problem modifying my q3config.cfg file.
In q3config.cfg search for seta r_ignorehwgamma and modify the value to:
seta r_ignorehwgamma "0"EDITED: seta r_ignorehwgamma "1".
This should do the trick.
But be advised that if your graphic card is an Intel one, probably this will not work. I repeatedly tried in another PC with Intel card without any success. In this case the only thing you can do is to correct the monitor brightness before opening the game.
