IF/WHEN we put a mod team together to make a new western mod on a new engine, I don't think we should just "port" wq3. I think it should be brand new but based on many of the great elements of wq3. Having the source is a tremendous help! After some discussion, a few of us have mentioned other engines that could be very good for attracting attention to the mod. HL2, Unreal3, Doom3, BF2, etc. Many possibilities. 8)

well- am not pushing anything- but- our best bet for a successful new mod engine would be enemy territory- it is free and more accessible to many ppl- and frankly- i don't feel like paying for a q4a just to simply play this mod- cause in all honesty i think q3a by itself sux- i just go for the mods- same goes for the entire quake series- enemy territory and it's related mods r also currently getting more publicity then anything quake related... other than quakecon- the wq3 conversion/upgrade to et would not be that difficult, seeing as how game engines have only slowly become better since the early 90's but still retain much of the basic game engine structure- so... if a home engine is still being debated for an upgrade in western quake- should stick to the et one- lol- then it couldn't even be called western quake either- maybe... "territorial west" or "western territory" lol.... sure we could come up with somethin...

Well, anything is open for discussion. IF we do a new mod, we will likely go with whatever engine the mod team desires. Some modders would only participate on certain engines. At any rate, a new mod is still a ways off. For now, the few people that are participating here just want to make wq3 a little better and publicize what we have going here. :wink:
BTW, I quickly removed the test patch and changed the server back to normal after I saw you try to connect....but I guess it was too late. You really should get on xfire so we can contact each other on such occassions.

wow- lol- u really didn't have to do all that for me- btw- xfire updates WAY too often and i can't keep up with it- i am on a limited account due to virus security reasons and can only gain access to administrative rights every so often... so- whenever u see xfire updating itself- u can be pretty sure i won't be usin it for at least a week or so-

p.s.- don't any of yall got anything other than xfire? it's great and all but jeez... i wouldn't prioritize on it- i got:

Hi. I dont know if the following ideia is possible but ...
Now that the quake3 source code is out to evolve WQ3 into a
standalone game where you have single and multiplayer.
In Singleplayer you work as a sheriff that must control his city and kill the bad guys to get more money and hire bots ( i am also asking help to make some single player episode to QW3 now but that is for latter on ... ).
On multiplayer we would have the same logic than in multiplayer, but with
real persons playing the law, or the outlaws in a simulated wild west simulation.

Welcome to the forum! We are planning a stand alone WQ3 for later this year. 8) However, we don't have enough manpower (or time) to make a singleplayer element. The game will be much like it is now but with some code improvements and several new maps.

A 3mb flash website? You aren't serious, right?

As for the sp part of wq3. This would mean a lot of work for the team and I think it would be best to concentrate on the multiplayer part. There is still a lot to do for the standalone version.

I would get ride of flash. I don't like flash websites. They are eye candy, but not usable. Flash should be used for animation, but not for displaying information. And there are many alternatives to Flash nowadays - I just love AJAX :)

The idea about the sheriff that hires people sounds nice, but I can't quite see how it would work in wq3. It would be a lot of work, and I can't see how it could work in multiplayer. What would the players that you haven't hired yet do? Just sit and wait? Even if it could make sense in singleplayer, you would still be fighting the same old bots, and we all know that that gets old quickly. So you would need lots of new gameplay and strategy elements to make it interesting in singleplayer.

I think q3 and wq3's strength lies primarily in the multiplayer fun. So I think your ideas would be best used in an new, independent game. Since the game is now open source, you're welcome to go ahead and fork the source code to make your singleplayer game. By the way, I think the RtCW mod Wild West is more strategy oriented, but I have never tried it myself.

If you are interested in making a new gametype that would fit in the game as it is now, then that's another story. A new objective-based gametype could be interesting. But it would have to differ sufficiently from bank robbery as to be interesting.

You may know that we plan to release a patch this fall, mostly with bugfixes and some minor changes to the mod. And maybe another patch a few months after that. The second patch will probably be released together with a standalone version. Then there are plans to port the game to a new engine. What happens with the q3 mod/standalone after that, is not yet clear.
