Remember the provided archives are not a full game.
You still need a full Smokin'Guns 1.0 installation where to unzip the downloaded files.

To start playing with the beta test, you have 2 ways:

1. Full download:
* Get the full beta file
* Rename your v1.0 or previous binary to keep it as backup
* Unzip the full zip archive content in your Smokin' Guns folder
* Eventually get another binary engine from sparcdr site, for example if you want to run a MacOSX binary
* Choose your binary and have fun

2. Partial download:
* Get a binary from SourceForge site or sparcdr
* Rename your v1.0 or previous binary to keep it as backup
* Unzip the zip archive if you choose the SourceForge way
* Start the binary you choose
* In the client Options menu, activate the "autodownload" option
* Then join a beta server and you'll download automatically the needed PK3 files

so what is the "old" binary? I was looking through all my files (I have not put in any of the new ones) but don't know what to rename.

also, all I have down loaded are the tow first files you posted on the other post.

Well I may not be clear enough sometime
You only need the SmokinGuns-Beta-1.1b1.zip, this is the full download one. This other one is for the second case.
The old binary is "smokinguns.exe" in your installation folder if you're under windows.

Otherwise, don't forget to say which platform you're on.

And finally, yes, that's all you need. If it doesn't work, we will discuss more
You just need to unzip the archive content in your SG 1.0 installation folder.

Okay, I am a n00b, so you can yell and scream OMFG NOOB NOOB NOOB if you want. So I grabbed the full download and extracted to my SG folder. Now there are 6 new exes to choose from. Which one do I need?

on which platform are you ?

1. If you're on windows, use firstly the "smokinguns.exe". The "migw32-crosscompiled" tag one is here just in case you would try another build. The "dedicated" binaries can be used to setup a dedicated under Windows. The "x86.exe" ones are just my mistake and are just the same than "mingw32-crosscompiled" ones.

2. If you're on linux, you can choose the "smokinguns.x86_64" if you installed a 64 bits system, otherwise use the "smokinguns.i386". The "dedicated" can be used for online dedicated servers (I uses this ones for mine). This linux binaries has been compiled under Fedora 10 and may not work on other linux distro. So sparcdr has built Ubuntu binaries you can found there: http://www.smokin-guns.org/downloads/bi ... rent/linux

3. If you have another platform, try to find a suitable on sparcdr mirror site: http://www.smokin-guns.org/downloads/binaries/current
