Bots

Postby renegade » Wed Jun 18, 2003 2:52 pm

Hello,

I am building a map for Western Quake and I was wondering how would i go about adding bot support ? is it like CS' PODBot waypoint system where you would place and then connect the waypoints ? or should i just use the bspc.exe to compile an aas file ??

Doing detailed bot support for maps in Q3 is quite an interesting task from what I've heard. Botclips, botroam areas (if such a thing exists in WQ3, I know it's in RQ3), etc.

The basic support is done using bspc, the program that comes with Radiant. Open up in a command/DOS window, get to the directory its in and run the command, you'll get a bit about how to use the program, as well as how to make a .aas file, which is the bot file for maps. Like I said, detailed bot support in Q3 is quite a task, if I remember correctly hearing. This is gonna be basic.

in westernquake3, you have to make an .aas file, as in vanilla q3, but additionally, you have to set waypoints. you do this ingame by walking through your map with cheats enabled, and setting waypoints. you can see the console commands in
westernq3/dev_tools/ai-nodes_Readme.txt

best you bind some keys, like
/bind n "node_set"

then you have to save the ai file and put it in your maps folder....

i hope i said everything the right way ;)
