Custom skin possible for Wq3?

Postby zenman » Sun Aug 11, 2002 10:09 pm

Hey ICI,

This is my first post here, and I'd like to start off by saying you guys have an awesome mod going here. The Old West and the simple, yet very difficult and dangerous way of the 19th century life has always intrigued me. This mod, even in beta form, is awesome, IMO. I have utmost confidence that your new beta 2.0 will be an even greater work of art. Keep up the awesome work! You guys are underappreciated, even in the best of times. Thank you for your dedication.

Now that I've got that off my back, I have a question. I'm relatively new to Q3, only have been playing for 3 months. Luckily I'm a quick learner and have made a few basic skins for Q3, for use as my character. Is it possible to reskin an existing Western skin and use it as a personal character? I do not intend on using it for an opponent, just as something to differentiate myself from the bot characters. I have cracked open a skin file to have a look at it, and found them to be different than typical Q3 fare. Curiosity drives me to learn as much as possible, LOL.

Thanks again!

Custom skin for WQ3

Postby zenman » Thu Sep 05, 2002 1:24 pm

Well, I did it - I made 3 new skins for the existing Q3 models. 2 using the Farmer model and 1 using the male1 model! It wasn't hard, but I have no knowledge of shader editors. Therefore, they don't look anywhere near as nice as the originals. Hopefully I'll learn how to use one sometime. OH, and I gave my 3 new skins their own bot support! That was the easy part, LOL, just a few additions into a .txt file.

Looking through the .pk3 file, I got a very good idea how the whole system works. You guys sure work hard! 90% now and climbing!

Thanks for all the effort you guys put in!
