I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. About causing damage?
This screenshot is of the camp fire in the test map. If you create a new trigger brush, right click it & select "trigger_hurt" from the menu, then bring up the entity window, you should be able to play with the settings to get what you are after.

I had a chat with dago about his trap, and I reckoned it would be a neat idea if it caused a player to get stuck in that spot for a few seconds as they pulled their mangled foot out of the trap. 
Would that be a possible trigger?

its not usable to make a trigger_stun brush with radiant at the moment.
